During this lock down I’ve had a few “core” beers that I’ve been drinking. One of them is Metal Head by Nickel Brook Brewing.
This beer is a somewhat new bigger brother to Headstock, a beer we reviewed 7 years ago on the blog. Back then I thought “hoppy” or “floral” were helpful aroma or flavour descriptions. Don’t worry, I got better!
Metal Head is a hop bomb that combines Citra, Simcoe and Ekuanot to basically punch your mouth with flavour. While Headstock was strong and filled with hops, this beer “takes it to 11” as they say.
You can purchase Metal Head at both the LCBO or directly from the brewery. It costs $4.50 a can and sits at 10% ABV.
Appearance: Hasy, unfiltered orange. Pure white head that lasts.
Aroma: Oranges and cloves hit first. A bit of a metallic smell. Some citrus notes.
Taste: Very tropical. Tangerine and pineapple also combined with grassy notes. It’s leveled off with a strong malt backbone of vanilla and fresh bread.
Aftertaste: Oranges and fresh bread.
Overall: A perfect companion to the lockdown. Enjoy on its own or have it with something spicy and flavourful. Maybe Thai or Indian.
