In basic terms a kellerbier is an unfiltered lager (yes, it CAN be an ale, but now a days very few breweries make it that way). It’s a german style and the story goes that this is the beer that the brewmaster would have in his cellar and only server to his esteemed guests.
We decided to keep this bottle all to ourselves!
Smithworks is a small brewery based out of Peterborough that makes a wide variety of interesting beers. We don’t see them in the LCBO too often so we had to pick up a bottle.
A bottle at the LCBO will set you back $3.45 and the beer itself sits at 5.6% ABV.
Appearance: Pure white head, golden colour. Unfiltered.
Aroma: Soft cherry and malts. Bit of floral bitterness.
Taste: Fresh bread and a bit of that tropical goodness. Very mild.
Aftertaste: Short and dry.
Overall: Not mind blowing but perfectly tasty. I’d pair this with fresh fish or light chicken.
