Today is one of the coldest days of the year. It was -20 out this morning with a windchill making it feel like -30.
The solution?
Bundle up in a blanket and have a nice strong, dark beer. May I suggest the Lost River Baltic Porter by Bellwoods Brewery?
We shared this brew between us on a similar cold day. I used a balloon glass and Shawna used her Beer Drinking Ladies glass.
As a fun note, this beer won the gold medal at the Canadian Brewing Awards in 2012.
The beer sits at a heavy 8.5% ABV and is currently not available. When it is available you can get it at the Bellwoods retail store and in Bellwoods brewery on tap.
Appearance: Dark brown almost black. Thin brown head.
Aroma: Espresso for sure. Very strong. Also get chocolate and roasted malts.
Taste: Creamy soft mouth feel. Chocolate and roasted malts hit first then roasted nuts. There is a hint of vanilla.
Aftertaste: The strong smokey malts.
Overall: This is a perfect beer for the winter. It is absolutely delicious.
