Here’s a fun little tidbit of information:
Troy Burtch from Great Lakes Brewery actually taught myself and Shawna about beer in a course we took at George Brown College. He’s a great teacher and if you get a chance to take a class with him we highly recommend it!
Great Lakes is probably best known for their wonderful use of hops in every type of IPA imaginable which is why it is no surprise that they are making the jump to a sessionable IPA.
Sessionable generally refers to beers that are a bit lighter in alcohol and usually a bit more ‘easy drinking.’ A good ‘sessionable’ beer is one you can drink more than one o while on a patio and get a slight buzz going without getting plastered or sick of the flavour.
With many entrants into the field such as Cruiser by Amsterdam they have quite the battle ahead.
You can grab a can at your local LCBO for $2.80. It sits at a very sessionable 3.8% ABV.
Appearance: Unfiltered with a nice gold colour and pure white head.
Aroma: Delicate mix of mango and other tropical fruits.
Taste: Very smooth with a light mouth feel. Hints of tropical fruits as mentioned but the backbone which is a bit like pizza dough comes in and cleans things up a bit.
Aftertaste: Long but light. Mostly malty surprisingly.
Overall: Certainly sessionable!
