A few days ago I got an email from Beau’s telling us about their new Summer Mix Pack. Usually these kind of announcements don’t excite me too much, every brewery of a certain size releases them but something stood out to me: the Full Time IPA. It’s a brand new beer from them and it’s a take on the classic west coast IPA.
While some may say the west coast IPA is overdone, I do still enjoy them in these hot summer months. I was excited at the chance to try it so I emailed them and shortly after a bottle showed up at my front door. (If you haven’t picked up on it, I’m saying the bottle was received as a review bottle FOC.)
A west coast IPA can be distinguished by it’s hazy unfiltered look and hop forward profile. What is in that profile is up to the individual brewer. I personally prefer it to be more on the tropical side (go citra!).
A good back bone is essential but if they go too overboard with malt it may dip into the east coast IPA category.
This beer sits at 6.7% ABV and is available at the LCBO in the Beau’s Summer Mix Pack which comes to $21.95.
Appearance: Unfiltered, classic west coast IPA look, white head that fades quickly.
Aroma: Tropical fruits like banana, tangerine and mango.
Taste: Less fruity, more pine like. Soft mouth feel. Light pizza dough back bone.
Aftertaste: Short with tangerine and a bit of pepper.
Overall: An interesting combo of smell and taste. Would pair with chicken and fish.
