Today we are reviewing one of my favourite winter beers: Bolshevik Bastard, the well named brain beauty of a beer by Nickel Brook Brewery.
This beer is a Russian Imperial Stout, which is a style of beer you’ll start seeing more and more as the temperature drops. They are generally malty and dark with flavours of bitter dark chocolate and coffee.
You can purchase a 4-pack at the LCBO for $10.95 and it sits at a heavy 8.5% ABV.
Appearance: Black as my soul. Not much brown head. Super thick legs on the glass.
Aroma: Cherry, soda and vanilla bean. Smokey like a camp fire.
Taste: More vanilla with hints of clove. Bitter cold coffee.
Aftertaste: Long but dry. Very sweet like simple syrup.
Overall: A great winter warmer, pair with dark red meats that are oozing flavour. Best with a roaring fire, some friends and a good book.
