I have an interesting connection with this one. You see, I don’t actually make any money with this here website (it doesn’t even have ads!) So I have to do this crazy thing where I work a “job”.
At this job I work with “coworkers”. Other people who also can not make a living talking about beer. One of those coworkers happens to be in a band. A band that is getting kind of big these days called Revive the Rose.
One of their songs “Bar Down” is about to be featured in the new NHL 2021. You can check out the music video here.
On top of that, they now have a beer!
Brewed in collaboration with Taps Brewhouse out of Niagara Falls, Bar Down Lager is a… well obviously a lager. What’s unique about it is that it’s brewed with rose hips and hibiscus flowers.
Since we’re coworkers and he found out I have a beer blog I was sent a growler of the beer. So here I am writing about it (though I totally would have written about it without being coworkers.
Bar Down Lager sits at 5% ABV and costs $11.50 for 64oz. Taps Brewhouse does offer delivery and takeout.
Appearance: fantastic deep brown colour with an off white head that didn’t last long. Filtered like most lagers.
Aroma: pizza dough and cherries mixed with a bit of caramel.
Taste: Cherry start but then turns into honey. The hibiscus comes out well here. Sweeter than most lagers, going against the style but enjoyable.
Aftertaste: Rose hips dominate.
Overall: Would certainly go well at a game or concert. Light enough to session but enough flavour to keep things interesting. Pair with your favourite hot wings or zucchini fritters.
