The last time we were at Bar Hop it was after a wonderful dinner at Luma. That’s when we did that awesome double blind taste test of Cockpuncher and Witchshark. The fact they had both of those options should be telling.
The time we ventured there before that was when we met Stephen Beaumont for the first (and hopefully not last) time at his book signing for The Pocket Beer Guide.
Located on King St W, Bar Hop is right in the heart of the Entertainment district. When surrounded by crappy club music and well… crappy clubs, it’s nice to find a bar that focusses on quality beer and awesome food.
In terms of beer, you can find everything from hyper local micro brews to cellar-aged imports from the other side of the earth. They have 36 rotating craft beers on tap and over 100 bottles in the fridge. If you have a hard time deciding what to drink they offer flights of samples at very reasonable prices.
As for food you will find pretty standard pub affair, but brought up to another level. They have mussles, burgers and everything else you can imagine. I personally recommend the burger but people have told me I MUST try the meat pie.
I should mention they do Buck A Shuck Tuesdays and serve up some wonderful oysters!
Our notes:
Location: Right in the heart of the Entertainment District. Easy to get to via TTC though people with cars will have trouble as they would anywhere downtown.
Price: Not exactly cheap. You’re paying for quality when it comes to both food and beer.
Ambience: The crowd is usually energetic and the bar itself has a great rustic but modern feel to it. It’s a little ‘classier’ some might say, but not overtly. Great place for a date.
Booze: HUGE selection. GO THERE NOW.
Food: Incredibly delicious. Not a massive selection, they focus on quality over quantity.
