After a wonderful Icelandic dinner at Luma me and Shawna decided to have some after dinner beers over at Bar Hop. The first beer I sampled was called ‘Nutcracker’ by Black Oak Brewing.

The beer was sampled in a balloon glass on tap. Atmosphere was standard Bar Hop. Lots of folks around all enjoying great beer.

This beer sits at a respectable 5.8% and supposedly has had cinnamon sticks thrown into the mash.

Lets keep it simple and go straight to the tasting notes:

Appearance: Black as oil. Completely opaque. It had almost no head.

Aroma: Light with a bit of coffee. Can make out hints of caramel.

Taste: Strong coffee and malt. It’s a little earthy with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. It has a surprisingly light mouth feel. Aftertaste is lightly malted and earthy.

Overall: I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It’s perfect for the holidays and I can see myself sipping this in front of a big fireplace while I chatted with my loved ones.
