We had a plan this weekend! It was to have a night of wonderful Asian style salads. We had an issue though: we needed to find the perfect wine to pair with them!
We needed something fruity, but not over the top and maybe a little spicy.
Shawna suggested a Gewürztraminer, which is a grape varietal I can’t even pronounce properly! As the name implies it is a German grape but is grown all over the world. It generally grows well in cold environments.
We discovered the OPEN Wines Riesling-Gewürztraminer and it sounded like just the ticket.
You can purchase a bottle at the LCBO for just $12.95 and it sits at 11.1% ABV.
Appearance: Straw yellow, looks young. Thin fast legs so not very viscous.
Aroma: Very light pear. Almost no other aroma here, the complexity is hidden in the taste.
Taste: Mango and pear combined with green apple. High acidic. Some peach comes in. Very flavourful but still a super light mouth-feel.
Aftertaste: Light and gone. Seriously, it just disappears.
Overall: Went well with Asian salad and would probably make for a great picnic wine. The value for price is quite high on this one.
