I’m a big fan of what Nicklebrook Brewery is doing with their Bastard series of stouts. It’s always exciting to see what they’ll come up with next. The Bolshevic is amazing, the Kentucky is unique and now this, the Cheeky.
Cheeky Bastard is a big change for the series – the stouts are generally high ABV monsters meant to warm you up on a cold winter day – Cheeky on the other hand is light in ABV and can be enjoyed year round as a refreshing stout.
This stout sits at 4.5% ABV and can be found at the LCBO for just $3.35 for the can pictured.
Appearance: The colour of my soul. Tan head that lingers.
Aroma: Dark roasted aribica coffee and 100% cocoa dark chocolate.
Taste: Dark coffee continues and it has an oily and full mouth feel. Burnt almonds and peanuts. The toasting of the malts adds bitterness to the hops. A bit of pine.
Aftertaste: A cold cup of coffee.
Overall: Pair with a newspaper and a cigar. This is a fantastic dark stout with a super light ABV.
